The Unlikely Meeting That Sparked a Musical Journey: The Story of Reflecting Grace

It all started in 2016 with an ordinary shopping trip—one that turned into something extraordinary. Jeff Todd was aimlessly wandering the aisles of Hobby Lobby in Newnan, GA, killing time while his wife and daughters shopped for craft supplies. Meanwhile, Eric Dotson was on a mission, searching for the perfect set of art pens.

Fate—or perhaps divine intervention—brought them together in one of those aisles. Their conversation began with a simple observation: they were both wearing comic book T-shirts. But as they talked, they quickly discovered they had much more in common than pop culture—they were both artists with a deep love for music. That casual encounter was the spark that ignited Reflecting Grace.

The Birth of a Sound
Shortly after their first meeting, Jeff and Eric sat down in the middle of Eric’s living room and began sharing their creative work. Jeff had 100+ original songs (or as he called them, “poems”) just waiting for music. Eric, on the other hand, had a head full of melodies with no words. It didn’t take long for them to combine forces and create songs, and with a couple of impromptu videos, the seeds of something special were planted.

But they quickly realized they needed more—a band, a dedicated space, and additional talent to bring their sound to life. That’s when Eric’s longtime friend, Gary Blume, stepped in. Not only did he offer up his basement as their creative haven, but he also contributed years of musical experience, helping to shape the growing sound of Reflecting Grace.

Completing the Puzzle
As their music evolved, there was still something missing. Enter James Moore (another of Eric’s friends) and Jeffrey Todd (Jeff’s son), who joined the group about a year later. With their rhythm section in place, Reflecting Grace finally had the heartbeat it needed. The puzzle was complete, and the music truly came alive.

A Band Unlike Any Other
Today, Reflecting Grace isn’t your typical band. With nearly 200 original songs in the works, the group gathers every Sunday afternoon to do what they love--create music. No tour dates. No public performances. Just pure, raw creativity, recorded on a Zoom LiveTrak L-12, exchanged between members, and stored on home computers.

But something tells us this story isn’t over yet. There are still more puzzle pieces left to discover… STAY TUNED.

In The Studio (aka Gary's Basement)

In the basement of Gary's home in Winston, GA. This is their current location of practicing and creating original songs... and where the kinks get worked out. They get together on Sunday afternoons when their schedules allow them.
